N2 - People all over the world are striving for fame as a way of life, a profession, and are looking for ways to join the celebrity industry. It seems that "being famous" no longer takes the role of fulfilling personal, cultural and symbolic needs; it has rather developed into an industry, an economic sphere in its own right (Rojek, 2001). Thus great efforts are being made by celebrity culture to promote and present the self (Marshall, 2010) and to effectively exploit emotional discourse (Nunn and Biressi, 2010) by breaking the chains of shame (Madsen and Brinkmann, 2012). Furthermore, various media organizations distributing television reality content to major news channels are encouraging the proliferation of gossip sites on the internet, thus further increasing the thirst for notoriety (Turner, 2010). In order to investigate this trend, this chapter examines the readiness of young people to reveal embarrassing personal information about themselves in order to achieve fame. It aims at creating a preliminary database to explain into this phenomenon.
