תקציר
Ecohydrological systems consist of a physical component that is highly entangled with vegetation components. Under the dry, sub-humid conditions of the studied area (Judean Shephelah, central Israel) two main surface structures were observed: matrix and mosaic. The matrix is composed of one dominant component, Sarcopoterium Spinosum, as a homogenic background with low rock coverage (<~14%). The mosaic is composed of multiple components and has a heterogeneous appearance with high rock coverage (>~14%). The occurrence of rock outcrops on the surface has the greatest impact on vegetation distribution as it leads to enhanced water availability and a higher heterogeneous ecohydrological system. In sum, the physical structure of the surface is the main factor in vegetation distribution under dry sub-humid climate conditions.
