The paper presents the Research and Development Program necessary to supply engineering data for the final design of the 10 MAD-MED Prototype Plant. The Prototype Plant will utilise the horizontal aluminum-tube multi-effect distillation (MEG) "IDE Process" which operatesa at relatively low-temperatures. The paper discusses R & D Program justifaction and describes the operation of the various test units and pilot plants required for implementation of the Joint United States-Israel Desalination Project.
