Improvement in quality of life following placebo and captopril as substitute antihypertensive therapy

Antihypertensive drugs that produced adverse reactions were replaced with placebo and subsequently with captopril in 40 patients. Treatment with either captopril or placebo was followed by identical reductions in the incidence of adverse reactions. This indicated that the improvement in side effects was a result of the cessation of the previous drugs, made possible by their replacement with captopril.
