Abstract
Iron(II) protoporphyrin, FeIIPP, is reduced by eaq- and CO2.- in aqueous solutions to FeIPP, which might be present in aqueous solutions as FeIIIPP - H. The spectrum of the short-lived intermediate and the kinetics of its decomposition into FeIIIPP + H2 are reported. The free radicals .CH2OH, .CH(CH3)OH and .C(CH3)2OH react with FeIIPP forming FeIIIPP - CR1R2OH; the spectra of these intermediates, which decompose into FeIIIPP + HCR1R2OH, are reported.
