Abstract

Ni(II) ions in the presence of excess of pyrophosphate catalyze the decomposition of HSO5, while forming relatively stable Ni III(P2O7)n3 4n complexes. Excess pyrophosphate stabilizes the trivalent nickel species, NiIII(P2O7)n3 4naq, i.e. increases considerably its lifetime.
