Abstract

The kinetics of oxidation of NiIIL by Br2- and OH radicals in aqueous solutions were studied. The kinetics of the aquation reaction NilIILBr2+→NiIIIL+Br- was found to be base catalyzed. The pk of the reaction NilIIL3+⇄NilnL(OH)2+ was determined, pK=3.45, and the redox potential of the couple NiIIIL3+/NiIIIL2+ is 1.34 V. The mechanism of decomposition of NiIIIL is discussed. The spectra of the different intermediates are reported.
