Abstract

This paper discusses a decorated ivory cylinder seal from an EB III context at Tell es-Safi/Gath, Israel. The seal, with its realistic depiction of a crouching lion, is noteworthy among the contemporary glyptic repertoire of the EB Levant due to the high level of the iconographic depiction. Suggested connections and the significance of this seal are discussed.
