Abstract

At A Glance . . . Rising from obscurity 25 years ago, Korean electronics companies have come to own a significant share of the world electronics market. They are now major DRAM suppliers in the world. This article focuses on how the Korean government and industry conglomerates, called "chaebols," have helped drive the development of Korea's semiconductor industry and provides an overview of what has been so far accomplished.
