Abstract

Using a galvanostatic method, a study was made of the anodic polarization of a molten Fe-C-Al alloy in an oxide melt consisting of 43% CaO, 51% Al//2O//3, and 6% MgO at temperatures from 1350 to 1550 degree C, and the dependences of the current density on the polarization were obtained. The concentration nature of the polarization is noted. It is established that the observed polarization is related mainly to the process left bracket Al right bracket -3e yields (Al**3** minus ) and is caused by inhibited diffusion of aluminum in the metal phase. An increase in the carbon content in the Fe-C-Al melt leads to an increase in the limiting current. This is apparently due to an increase in the equilibrium concentration of aluminum in the metal.
