Abstract
The kinetic features of boron transfer across the interface between the oxide (CaO-Al//2O//3-MgO) and iron-carbon melt have been determined by electrochemical steady-state and relaxation techniques. The admittance parameters of the metal/slag interface were determined while allowing for slow relaxation of the electric double layer. A heterogeneous reaction involving boron was shown to proceed under mixed kinetic control. Concentration polarization due to slow boron diffusion in the metal phase becomes evident far from equilibrium. Equations were obtained for calculating the limiting and exchange-current density of boron as functions of temperature and composition of the metallic melt.
