Kinetics of β-hydroxyl elimination from [(H2O)mCuIICH2C(CH3) 2OH]+ in aqueous solution. A pulse-radiolysis study

Abstract

The reaction of .CH2C(CH3)2OH with Cuaq+ yields the short-lived transient complex [CuIICH2C(CH3)2OH]aq +. The spectrum of the latter complex is reported. [CuIICH2C(CH3)2OH]aq + decomposes into Cuaq+ + CH2=C(CH3)2+OH-. The specific rate of this reaction is 5.0 × 104 + 8.6 × 107[H3O+] s-1. The kinetics are discussed in comparison with those of analogous reactions reported earlier.
