Inflammatory Gastric Polyps

To the Editor: Gastric polyps are not as frequent as colonic polyps, and their incidence is estimated (in endoscopic studies) to be 0.4 to 0.9 per cent.¹,² Inflammatory polyps are very rare, and their cause is unknown.^{3 4 5} Among 14,000 gastroscopic studies performed at the Sheba Medical Center in Israel between the years 1975 and 1984, we found 51 inflammatory polyps in 35 patients (35 gastroscopic studies) — an incidence of 0.25 per cent.
