Abstract

To improve the overall medical treatment and to obtain better disease diagnosis or treatment efficiency, this chapter draws the reader attention to important image analysis terms and procedures, starting with image resolution, image enhancement, image denoising, and image fusion and ending up with knowledge extraction. As well as presenting each step, the chapter also explores ways to do so, presenting different methodologies and their advantages/disadvantages. The chapter focuses on the successful traditional methods for each step but also on the new recent solutions that were obtained by using deep learning approaches. All of these approaches were proved to be successful for medical image informatics.
