Abstract

Excited state absorption has been studied for s² ions (In⁺, Tl⁺) and for Cu⁺ and Eu²⁺ ions in alkali halide crystals. The important role of the Jahn-Teller effect on low-energy excited states of the nsnp electronic configuration in the observed structure of the excited state absorption bands of s² ions is demonstrated.
