Abstract

Excited state absorption has been studied for s2 ions (In+, Tl+) and for Cu+ and Eu2+ ions in alkali halide crystals. The important role of the Jahn-Teller effect on low-energy excited states of the nsnp electronic configuration in the observed structure of the excited state absorption bands of s2 ions is demonstrated.
