Abstract

Design and operation principle of short-pulse high-voltage generator for creation of plasma discharge in gases are presented. The generator is constructed on the basis of Tesla transformer with pulse sharpening at the output. Voltage of output pulses is about 200 kV, raise time 2 ns, pulse energy 0.2 J, and pulse rate 0-1024 Hz. Using the generator in the barrier discharge cell with an effective diameter of electrodes 19 mm, gap between dielectric surfaces 5 mm, and thickness of dielectric on electrodes 3 mm, the current of about 20 A and power ∼ 1 MW were obtained.
