Abstract

Malformations arising from the ureteric bud are common and, not infrequently, more than one instance of a single anomaly is found in a kindred (references). The occurrence of varying anomalies within a kindred is rare, and only 4 reported instances could be found in which 2 or more of the 3 anomalies found in a family here described were found together. One of these examples was associated with Fanconi's anemia. This family is of interest from the viewpoints of both etiology and pathogenesis. The various renal anomalies were: unilateral kidney agenesis, a horse shoe kidney and a double kidney. The condition is considered to represent an autosomal dominantly inherited 'instability' of the ureteric bud.
