Abstract
Calcaneus osteomyelitis as a complication of a single heel puncture in a previous healthy full term infant is described. The signs included local erythema, swelling and tenderness and S. aureus was cultured. Physicians should be alert to this complication. Aseptic technique, avoidance of dorsiflexion of the ankle during heel puncture and short stylet points are recommended to prevent this complication.
