Abstract
Truncated equations are derived for describing the trajectory of a relativistic electron in the field of two electromagnetic waves under beat resonance conditions. These equations are specified by an averaged high-frequency potential whose form depends on the projection of the electric field of the waves onto the electron velocity vector. It is shown that scattering with TE yields TM wave conversion cannot occur if the angle between the wave vector of the TM wave and V, the translational velocity vector of the electrons, is equal to 1/ gamma , where gamma is the Lorentz factor.
