Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine students’ perceptions of teaching and learning on the academic campus, after experiencing different models of e- learning for more than two years. The research population included 1,048 students at a university in Israel. The current study combines quantitative and qualitative research methods. The findings of the current study show that most of the students (some 60%) expressed a clear and unequivocal preference for exclusive online learning, about one quarter (26%) expressed a preference for hybrid studies and only 12.4% expressed a desire to resume face- to- face studies on campus. Of these, 13.6% replied that their preference depends on the type of course. However about half of the students reported that studying on campus is important to their interpersonal and social interactions with students and faculty members on campus. The current findings indicate that it is essential that policymakers, lecturers, and students rethink the meaning of academic teaching and learning and strategically plan the study contents, their relevance for learners’ lives, the pedagogy, and new varied methods of teaching, learning, and assessment, combined with advanced technologies and their adaptation to learners, with a focus on developing socio- emotional learning abilities.
