title = "Pain",
abstract = "Pain issues are particularly problematic for person with intellectual disabilities. There are several reasons for this state of affairs. First, physical problems, many of which are very common and lifelong in this population can result in chronic pain. Second, these conditions are more common and severe as one{\textquoteright}s intellectual disabilities become more pronounced. Third, those with the more severe intellectual disabilities have limited speech and the general ability to express themselves. Pain detection and how it is dealt with is therefore a very important topic, and the purpose of this chapter.",
