An effective numeric procedure for seismic response analysis of multistory buildings with active control systems

Active control of structures subjected to lateral loads is a modern trend in civil engineering. The design of active controlled structures is based on optimal algorithms, involving numerical simulations. An improved mathematical model of active controlled structures, including executing devices of control systems, forms a system of differential equations. The equations stiffness is the main problem in numerical integration of these equations. Integration of stiff differential equation requires sometimes a long computation time and for conventional used integration methods it may be unstable. A stable method for fast integration technique is proposed in this paper. The continuous dynamic system is transformed into equivalent discrete-time one. The discretization yields a recurrent scheme, which enables to make the computation fast and results in a stable computation procedure. The efficiency of the proposed technique is demonstrated in a numerical simulation of a two-story structure.
