ملخص
In this note, I revisit a statement in the Babylonian Talmud that contains an enigmatic reference to invalidated coinage. After establishing the historical context behind this statement, I argue that it refers specifically to the coinage of Pescennius Niger. As such, this text serves as a historical literary support to a conjecture of T. V. Buttrey, who asserted that Septimius Severus actively suppressed Niger’s coinage as part of a broader campaign of dam-natio memoriae upon him.
